About me

Hi there,

I am Vinh Nguyen, an experienced software developer from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

I specialize in building great software teams, designing simple products, and developing features that people enjoy using.

Over the last 14 years, I've worked as:

  • From intern to Engineering Manager at OPSWAT Inc.: Built and led an internal startup to research, develop and maintain vulnerability detection and patch management technologies, which serve as the backbone of many security products.
  • Then, Head of Technology at Dela Security Inc.: Built a startup team to research, design and develop Dela IEM - an identity security product and the technologies behind it.

But, let me tell you a more interesting story.

After 14 years working for startups and established software companies, creating products and technologies embedded in digital infrastructures that serve millions of end-users, talking to friends of various positions in the field, I've seen history repeat itself enough times to recognize the pattern:

Companies don't always know what they are doing.

Surprised, right? After all, they have so many talented people...

This can be good or bad.

It's bad when a company decides to build a product just because the CEO says so. The entire team rushes to build "something" based on "market research", then push that out to the market with a clear signal to people: "I'm just a copycat; move on". It is built by people who simply don't care, as seen through from the thoughtless interface, bad runtime experience, mediocre customer support and lack of servicing.

The cause, obviously, is: "My bosses just don't care. Why should I?"

I won't go into the root cause.

I just know that products like that flood the market, leave customers with bad impression on the sad state of the art that they have no choice but to live with it. This feeling then signals back to the vendors, encourages them to push more and more into this direction which eventually leaves customers in misery.

That destructive energy will eventually come back to the vendor, prophesying its demise.

At the same time, I've seen good cases: Founders and companies who really care, who embrace challenges, jump into the unknown, and devote themselves to bringing the best products and services in their ability to customers. The best part is: They have creative energy inside, not destructive, so they build with care, not cuts. They are the real engines of the economy, creating goods for society, giving people hope and reminding us what it means to be human.

But, I've also seen them struggle, feel frustrated, and face so many setbacks - myself included. So I know how valuable it is to have an experienced hand by their side.

That's why I created this small lab: To help founders build and improve the software they can be proud of, by someone who cares as much as they do.

So, if you are such a proud business owner in need of a software development and consultant service, reach me at vinhsoftwareservice@gmail.com. I'd love to hear your story.

Pleasure to serve,
